Illinois Kölsch is our take on the classic German Ale from Cologne, Germany. Kölsch beers are known to be light, crisp, and refreshing. Kölsch’s unique yeast imparts a delicate fruitiness in the beer’s flavor and aroma. This Kölsch is the lowest ABV beer that we’ve ever made. At 4.6%, this is definitely a beer that can quench your thirst…. especially if you’ve just ran a marathon.
That’s why we’re releasing this beer just in time for the Illinois Marathon (April 28th). In fact, if you run any of the races during the marathon weekend (5K, 10K, half or full marathon), a Riggs Illinois Kölsch will be waiting for you at the finish line.
To make this beer worthy of the title “Official Beer of the Illinois Marathon”, we decided to do something really special. We brewed this beer exclusively with grain and hops that were grown in Central Illinois. We grew all of the grain in this beer right behind the brewery, in Urbana. All of the hops came from Hallowed Hops Farm in Lewistown, IL.
